Guide · Groups that are not schools
Can a church, camp, scout troop or wedding rent a school bus in New Jersey?
Yes. A yellow school bus with a licensed driver is one of the most practical ways to move a group of twenty to fifty people around North Jersey for a few hours, and it is booked the same way a school books one. Here is what works, what is different from a school trip, and what to expect on the day.

Why a school bus works for a group that is not a school
Our drivers hold the passenger endorsement on their commercial licenses, which is what allows them to carry the general public, and the buses are inspected for passenger service by the state twice a year. The same driver who takes a class to a museum on Tuesday can take a church group to a retreat on Saturday, and the same dispatch desk watches both trips. There is nothing to arrange beyond the booking.
What a school bus gives a group is simplicity. It is billed by the hour, so a three-stop loop, a drop-and-return or a bus that waits all afternoon are all just hours on the quote. It fits in places a coach cannot: a church lot, a camp road, a park entrance, a hotel's porte-cochère. It seats twenty to fifty people with a driver who knows the roads. And everyone recognizes it, which for a wedding or a reunion is half the fun.
The groups we carry, and how they use the bus
- Churches and congregations. Retreats and conference days, youth group trips, Sunday shuttles from a remote lot, choir and ministry outings, senior trips to the shore. The bus often waits on site and brings the group home.
- Camps and summer programs. Daily AM and PM routes for the season with a regular driver the campers know where the schedule allows, plus weekly trips to pools, parks, lakes and the shore. Summer camp transportation has the details.
- Scout troops and youth organizations. Campout drop-offs and pickups with gear, day trips, jamboree runs and service-project transport. Gear takes seats; tell us how much.
- Senior centers and clubs. Day trips, matinees, casino runs, holiday light tours. Lift-equipped buses are available, and the step height and seating are spelled out on the quote.
- Weddings. Guest shuttles between hotels, the ceremony and the reception on a loop schedule, or a single run each way. A yellow bus is a photo in itself; many couples book it for exactly that.
- Reunions, employers and events. Company picnics, team outings, 5K and festival parking shuttles, employee shuttles to train stations, graduation overflow parking.
- Sports leagues and travel teams. Tournament days, away games and a bus that waits at the field. Athletic team buses covers it.
What is different from a school trip
- Payment. Schools and districts book on a purchase order. Other organizations pay 7 days before the trip date; the quote says how.
- No alcohol on the bus. It is a school bus, and it stays one. For weddings that means the drinks wait at the reception; the bus brings people to them. Smoking and vaping are out too.
- Seats, not lounges. Bench seats with belts, no restroom, no luggage bay. For a short loop or a day trip within the region, that is fine; for a long highway day with luggage, a coach is the better tool, and we will say so.
- Hours, not a flat day. Billing is by the hour with a 4-hour minimum, and the quote shows exactly which hours count. A wedding shuttle that runs 4 PM to 11 PM is seven hours; a church retreat drop-off at 8 AM and pickup at 4 PM can be quoted as two separate runs instead of a bus waiting all day, whichever costs less.
- Riders of every age. Riders who use wheelchairs need a lift-equipped bus, which we have. Tell us the ages of the youngest riders and we size the bus and the seating for them. Say so on the request.
Booking a wedding shuttle, specifically
Give us the hotel or hotels, the ceremony and reception addresses, the ceremony time and the time the reception ends. Dispatch builds a loop schedule around them: guests picked up in waves before the ceremony, moved to the reception, and taken back in waves from the first departures until the last. A 54-passenger bus carries about 36 adults per run, so a 120-guest wedding with everyone at the hotel is three or four runs, which a single bus on a loop usually handles if the venues are close, and two buses handle easily. The quote lists each run with a time, which goes straight onto the wedding website and the welcome bag card. The driver stays with the bus for the evening and is reachable by the planner's cell.
What to send for a quote
The date, the addresses in the order the bus visits them, the first pickup time and the last drop-off time, the head count, and anything about the riders the driver should know: children, wheelchairs, walkers, lots of gear. The written quote comes back within one business day with every run and time listed. Accept it online, pay 7 days before the trip, and the bus and driver are locked in.
Questions
Can we decorate the bus for a wedding or a parade?
Within reason, yes: ribbons and signs that do not block windows, mirrors, lights or the stop arm, and nothing attached with adhesive that damages paint. Ask when you book so the driver knows to expect them.
Do you run trips at night and on weekends?
Yes. Weddings, Sunday shuttles, Saturday tournaments and evening events are routine. Late-night pickups are fine; tell us the last run time and the quote covers it.
Is a deposit required for a non-school group?
Non-school groups pay 7 days before the trip date, and the quote says how; the change and cancellation terms are written on the same quote.
Tell us where the group needs to be.
Any group, any day of the week. A written quote within one business day and a driver who stays.
